DUNLEWY STREET

Billy Allen is a college student obsessed with the retired comedy team of Kirby and Hale. Their comic masterpiece, The Telephonies, was filmed in Asbury Park, New Jersey in 1962, and lost for fifty years. Billy is determined to find it and bring Kirby and Hale out of retirement for one last production.

What the critics are saying…

“In DUNLEWY STREET, Patrick Callahan delivers a two-punch knockout, giving the reader belly laughs one moment and the need for a box of Kleenex the next. He captures the nostalgic world of old time show business wrapped in a modern setting.”

Michael Townsend Wright–Actor

“Whimsical, often poignant, DUNLEWY STREET will remain nestled in the mind as an endless journey with characters and faces we all have known… and that’s all right by me.”

Joe Caruso – Actor

EXCERPTS

“ Billy knew what to do. He retrieved the gold key from his pocket and inserted it into the lock, held his breath, and gave it a turn. The tumblers clicked, and Fred grasped the door handle and pulled it downward. With a load crack, the safe door opened. Fred shone his flashlight into the opening and something metallic glistened in the darkness. An excited Billy pulled out two round film canisters.”

“Billy approached a hat rack on the wall and retrieved Sammy Hale’s newsboy cap. He brought it along for his trip to New Jersey. Al Kirby’s porkpie hat hung next to it: a gift from AC Carpenter for finding the film. Billy presented the precious items to the aged comedians. ‘It’s time to reunite these famous hats,’ he said.”
